Sleep studies

With a Pre-Polygraphy (pre-measurement) you do not have to make any additional preparations, apart from the paperwork. At a Polygraphy we ask you to put on a tight-fitting T-shirt to keep under the equipment and therefore to sleep in. Wearing a bra is no longer possible during and after attaching the equipment. Furthermore, at least one of the fingernails on one of both hands should not be too long and nail polish free. Acrylic or gel nails will also have to be removed from one of the fingernails. If desired, you will have to take a shower before coming to your appointment.

You come by appointment to the clinic where the equipment is explained, and sometimes partly applied. Then you can go home and go to sleep with the equipment at home. The next morning, return the equipment to the clinic.

If the Pre-Polygraphy shows that you have a positive indication for OSAS, a more extensive sleep study (Polygraphy) and an appointment with the sleep specialist will follow to discuss the results and start treatment. If you have a negative indication for OSAS, the results will be sent to your general practitioner and there will be no further investigation at Haaglanden Clinics. There are no costs associated with the Pre-Polygraphy study.

If you come for a Pre-Polygraphy, you do not have to plan for the rest of the day. You can simply continue your daily activities because you only put on the wristwatch when you go to sleep. If you get a Polygraphy, you will already have some of the equipment fitted in the afternoon, and you will have to adjust your daily activities. For example, you cannot shower or exercise. You can still cycle and drive a car.

You do not have to return the equipment yourself, someone else may also hand in the equipment for you at the Haaglanden Clinics desk. After a Pre-Polygraphy you must return the device the next morning before 9 am, after a Polygraphy you must return the device before 10 am. This in connection with analyzing the data and cleaning the equipment that will be used for research that day.

Results of sleep studies

If your doctor prescribes CPAP therapy, you will receive your CPAP device immediately after the consultation with the doctor. This is supplied and explained by the company Mediq Tefa. They are present in our clinic on the days that the doctor has consultation hours (Thursdays). At the doctor’s request, the company can also visit your home for CPAP placement.
If the doctor prescribes an MRA treatment, you will be measured and explained by our dental surgeons who specialize in this. These appointments usually take place on Monday afternoon.

In that case, the sleep specialist or your general practitioner may, following the screening and HSDQ questionnaire, send you to the Haaglanden Medical Center Sleep Center for further diagnostics.
